In his work, painter Luis Fernando Gonzalez, a native of Michoacan Mexico who has lived in the U.S. for the last eleven years, seeks to capture the beauty, mystery, and raw emotion which abounds in the world surrounding us and inside us. Michoacan is the only place in which the migratory Monarch butterflies congregate, and as a child Luis acquired a love of nature which is reflected in his artwork. At only twenty-four years of age, he has an impressive portfolio of 300+ paintings as well as many murals and sculptures.
As a youth in Mexico, Luis discovered his gift for art in many mediums, but was more drawn to oil on canvas. He was exposed to the study of art in a small art school in Michoacan, but gained recognition for his abilities in the U.S. while attending high school at Hillsboro where he painted murals, created sculptures, and produced some of his best early work on canvas.
Luis' technique can be described as refined, sensitive, and detail-oriented. His paintings sometimes are provocative and arresting, other times serene and philosophical. Luis' latest series of oil paintings are created using a mixed media of acrylic paint for texture, copper, shells, fabric, and string. The effect is meant to give the paintings an alive and natural feel, while releasing the emotion prevalent in most of Luis' paintings.
The love and support of his family together with the life long aspiration to discover himself through his art and dreams are his sources of inspiration. As Luis himself grows and matures, so does his art and technique.
