Artist Statement

As a self taught artist I feel that I am allowed much freedom to play with color and form. My images tend to have a playful quality which often turns towards a sacred or peaceful feeling, whether that is in the form of what I view in nature, religious icons, angels, mythical beings, or just a quality that comes through the eyes of the many faces I draw and paint.

I have some basic approaches to my work. The first is color. I love to open my colored pencil box or my paint box and just pull out the colors that are attractive on that day. My second approach is what brings joy or beauty to my life. This can start as an image, or a feeling that I want to express. The third approach is to have fun and enjoy the process with a non-biased judgment of what the outcome will be. This is when the magic happens for me and I feel most in tune with myself, my world, and my spirit.

Enjoy this showing of work, My wish is that somewhere in this paint, pencil, ink, paper, and canvas, you find a spark of joy to take with you as you leave.
